Twinkle Smash Party

So, it's been 1 year since this sweetie pie entered our lives, well, on November 24th. I am a bit late writing this post but we've had a full house of family, which has been so great! We are all very lucky that we can come together for life's special moments.

It's such a funny feeling around this time. I am filled with mixed emotions. I don't know if I am so happy that my baby girl is doing so well, growing up into this beautiful little lady with a big personality or if I am so sad that my baby is no longer a BABY! The quiet little cuddles are much less often, the once exclusively breastfed babe is now MAYBE feeding once or twice a day and her constant need for me is slowly dwindling as she becomes more and more independent. Of course I am happy, but it comes with a funny sense of "I miss the infant stage" emotion. I never really thought I would say that.

All that being said, I pull up my mommy panties and smile with pride! My baby is a 1-year-old! The year has gone by so fast! I guess we only say that once it's behind us because there were days/weeks that seem like they last forever. The difference between then (infant-hood) to the now toddler-hood is that I really need to be on my toes, be creative, plan activities, chase her around, be on top of my game. It's like they say, "enjoy the baby cuddles while they last!"

Okay, okay...let's talk about the fun stuff! The birthday party! It was so much fun to plan and we had such an amazing turnout! A great mix of kids...and big kids too! (adults I mean!) The theme was, as the title says, a Twinkle Smash party! Twinkle Little Star meets cake smash.

I got her a chocolate cake from Whole Foods Market - which I didn't know they made 1st birthday cakes for free! Then, I made 48 mini cupcakes with Pamela's Gluten Free Non-Dairy Chocolate Cake Mix topped with Creamy Coconut Frosting which I found in Love Child Organics' Recipe book that you can get at Amazon.ca. They were so delicious! After we sang Happy Birthday, I gave her the cake, but knowing Jordyn and her pointer finger habits, she just poked it with said finger! So maybe I should have changed the name of the party to Twinkle Poke! haha! After a couple of tastes she got right into it!

All of her party decor was from the Dollar Store! That's the best place to get this stuff! I found a store that actually had a nice dusty rose pink - instead of that hot pink you can get everywhere else. Her colour scheme was pink, black and gold. I bought a black table cloth and drew stars on it with a white chalk pen, my father, hubby and I blew up 30 pink and black balloons so I could make the garland that hung over the chalkboard, then drew the background birthday sign on the chalkboard the night before.

For a fun activity for the kids, I made a Punch Piñata. This is where you cut holes in some poster board, tape some tissue paper behind it, add some Dollar Store toys (I bought some noise makers) and seal it all up with paper bags. I forgot to take some pictures of it so I will post the link of where I got the idea and instructions of how to make it here. The kids LOVED it! Thanks for the post Made With Happy!

I also made a time capsule for Jordyn to open when she's 20 years old. I used a Mason Jar and painted the inside and let dry. Then asked family members to write her a little note or a prediction of what she will be in 2036. I think it will be a really special jar to open up then...as long as I remember where I put it!

All in all, it was a huge success! No tears, no food fights, no spills. Just happy people, grateful parents and one lucky birthday girl. I do want to give a huge shout out to all the family members that helped me out with everything! I am very grateful. I wouldn't have made it out alive if it wasn't for you! Post party, I took a much needed bath with a bath bomb from Salt Spring Soapworks (if you haven't tried these yet, you MUST! They are my lifesavers!) and reflected on an unforgettable year as a young family. My heart is filled with love! Can it get any more full? I think I am ready for another baby! Hahahaha! No, but seriously! :P

Thank you, on behalf of Miss Jordyn, for all the perfect gifts, beautiful smiles and really making her feel special. I know she had such a great time with each and every one of you.

I'd love to hear what kind of 1st birthdays you guys have done for you little ones, too!

**HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY SWEETIE PIE**
